You can use us for hosting if you have bought domains elsewhere.
You can either transfer the domain to us or usually and more simply
change the nameservers at your domain facility adn we can then pick
up the domain name at our hosting facility. At this stage your site
will effectively be hosted at our servers. Responsibility foir renewal
of your domain name will remain with yourself however.
Before proceeding, you need to check whether your domain company
can reconfigure nameservers for you and whether they charge for
this. It is a sufficiently common practice that they should be able
to do this for you and it is unusual to find that it costs money,
however please do check firstly. The details below are a guide to
what you may expect but you must read the instructions at your domain
registration company first and make sure that you know what you
are doing.
Approximate guide:
If you have bought from an online domain name service and then found
that you need web hosting, we can still provide web hosting for
you in many cases. You either need to ask your domain company to
change the nameservers for you or to transfer the domain into our
services.
Warning: If you transfer a domain name into us it will mean that
there will be interruption to your e-mail and web site services,
and this will be for at least 72 hours from the initial acceptance
of transfer. With .com domains it is even longer.
It is simpler to change nameservers in many cases and you will
need to find a section in your account where you 'manage domains'
in your 'domain control panel', assuming they provide you with one.
Select the option for 'change name servers' and add the following
information:
Under 'Nameserver 1:' ns1.turbodns.co.uk
Under 'Nameserver 2:' ns2.turbodns.co.uk
and then hit 'change nameservers'
NB If you are at all uncertain of what you are doing, please do
not proceed until you have checked with the domain name company.
We can take no responsibility for you reconfiguring your domain
names and this section should be taken as a guide to getting you
into the right section of your domain name control panel.
Please then inform us by e-mail of your domain name and we will
set up hosting accordingly.
Once nameservers are changed and the appropriate registry has been
notified, it will take approximately 48 hours for the site to become
active at our services. This will mean that your web site and e-mail
will be inactive during this period (or longer in some circumstance).
If in doubt, call us to discuss before proceeding. If you have
important traffic or e-mails at stake then we advise you not to
do so at all!
