Types of web pages
In addition to normal web pages there are several special
facilities which we thought ought to be listed here.
|
Home page: In order for your web site to be 'live' and immediately
visible from your domain name, so that people typing www.yourdomainname.co.uk
get to your website, you need to have a home page. This has to be
called either index.html or index.htm - all lower case. Without
this page, your website will cease to be available via the normal
route - although people could get to your site pages if they already
have them in favourites or have links to them. Be careful therefore
to keep a page named index.html as the file name!
General: Most of the time, you simply add web pages and
edit them and then, when you publish, they will be linked in using
the automated menu system (provided you have the marker in your
template).
Password protected: If you want some content to be private,
you can password protect a page or more of your website.
Forms:
There is nothing special about a form page, other than it is where
someone can enter information to make an enquiry to you. See the
form facility explanation for further information
Pages not on the
menu: If you don't want a page to appear on the menu automatically,
then use this facility, in the page properties page. You can then
link to it manually if you require it.
Thank you pages: These are pages which are not on the menu
and which are used specifically to give a thank you message after
a form has been sent. As standard, a form will look for a page called
thankyou.html to go to after it has been sent. You need to create
this or if you wish it to be called something else, then you need
to specify that in the form set up (see
hidden fields).
Templates:
These are special pages used as the basis of other web pages. You
set the overall look and feel of the web site as a whole or a section.
The ordinary web pages are then based upon these and place their
content within a specific area of the site.
E-commerce templates: Certain pages are specifically used
if you wish to have e-commerce on your site. They are static .html
pages but the system uses them to put the content in in real time.
There are four such pages:
Sales - used for the lists of categories on the site
Category - lists thumbnails of the products
Product - shows the product details and allows a purchase
Cart - Shows the cart contents.
Use the page choices
page to set which type a page is. You will then need to insert the
special markers to show
where the e-commerce details wil be put.
