Tables

Central to complex layouts is the use of tables. They provide the basis of flexibility allowing exact or relative positioning of items such as text areas, images etc. on the page. More explanation of tables is provided here.

UndoRedoHelpSave

Creates a table in the current cursor position or to change properties of the selected table - see below (click here).

TIP: Decide how many columns and rows you want before you insert the table, to save adding them later.

Further reading:

Creating a table / Editing an existing table

You will get an option to edit table if you right button over the table (is always the top table) or on the edge of an existing table when the cross hairs show.

NB With the Firefox – to select a table, click on border, click into a cell (not on an image) and click the insert text / image area to get the edit table window, otherwise, right clicking on a table only brings up editing cells.

Table properties to set/modify:

Rows
Set the number of rows in table. As with columns, this is only editable when setting up the table. To add more rows to the table after creation, use the insert row option

NB Once a table is created, you cannot edit rows here. Instead, use the alternative add row / add cell buttons etc. - see table tab above (click here).

Columns
Set the number of columns in table. As with rows, this is only editable when setting up the table. To add more columns to the table after creation, use the insert column option.

NB Once a table is created, you cannot edit rows here. Instead, use the alternative add row / add cell buttons etc. - see table tab above (click here).

Width of table
You can specify this in pixels e.g. 100 = 100 pixels wide, or percentage, e.g. 100% = 100 percent of the available space. The normal setting would be 100% in many cases and is set as a helpful default preference.

Height of table
Options as with width. Normally left blank

Background colour of table
Set from a colour picker - see below. You can set the whole table to have an colour like this but you can also set the individual table cells to have a colour or separate image, so that many effects can be achieved easily, giving lots of fine control over your page layout. Click here to see table cell editing.

Background image of table
Add a background image to the table for special effects. You can set the whole table to have an image like this but you can also set the individual table cells to have a colour or separate image, so that many effects can be achieved easily, giving lots of fine control over your page layout. Click here to see table cell editing.

Align
You can choose to align the table to the left, centre or right or leave it unset (which is effectively left but which will not force the next table to appear to the right! Unset shows as blank. By default, we set the tables to centre, as this is the most common.

Padding
Cell padding around table cells; This is the space around the cells of a table on the inside of the border and is specified in pixels.

You would use this to make sure text or images do not touch the edge of a table. By default we set this to 5 when you first insert a table.

Cell spacing
Space defined between table cells. Set to 0 by default.

Width of border
Sets the border width around table cells Set to 0 by default.;

There are also options for colour of table cell borders:

colour of bottom and right borders of table cells;

colour of left and top borders of table cells
