Tables
Central to complex layouts is the use of tables. They provide
the basis of flexibility allowing exact or relative positioning
of items such as text areas, images etc. on the page. More
explanation of tables is provided here.
Show invisible table borders.
|
Switch
invisible borders off / on to clear the outline (and forms) in
document.
When you insert a table, you can see a dotted outline, but this
will not show on published pages. The guide dotted borders allow
you to easily see the structure of the page. You can use the preview
option (click here)
to see how the page will look before publishing it or get a better
idea of the page by switching the borders off, using
,
which toggles them off and on again.
The ability to switch off the borders is largely
redundant in version 3, as you can now use preview
to see the page without table border guides showing.
Example below. Table without borders showing,
shows how difficult it is to see where table cells are without
borders showing - there are actually two rows and two columns
here:
| business |
|
| |
professional
leaders |
Now with table borders switched on, you can see how the items
were positioned:
| business |
|
| |
professional
leaders |
