Wordtracker (word tracker) is an integral part of
our web
site promotion projects. There is a free wordtracker
trial so there really isn't any reason not to have a look!
Don't make false economies!
Everybody wanting to be successful on the web through search
engine results should start by researching they key words
being used to find similar sites. This should be one of
your first priorities.
It is easy to think that you
can get away with quickly ferreting out the key phrases
for your site in one fell swoop and then being smug that
you only spent £15. However, if you do this, you are
totally missing the point. Buying the ability to see what
people search for gives you the chance to think of ways
of getting people to your site and this is not a one time
job, or something that is useful for only one week.
'Don't waste a single page'. Writing
and designing a web page is likely to take you at least
a couple of hours, unless you are unusually gifted or know
your topic inside out and are a fast typist.
Once you have your nice gleaming
new page and you spent several hours honing the text, so
that it gets your point across, who is going to read it?
Most pages that you write will
probably already have people searching for the topic being
written about. You just need to give yourself half a chance
for them to find you. 'Putting
key word phrases on every page that you write, which are
relevant to your topic gives you at least some chance of
gaining visitors from search engines'.
Not doing so, is far
likely to be successful, unless you get a lucky break and
an influential site links to you.
Short subscriptions are short
sighted... For the sake of argument,
let us assume you are a poodle breeder and you just wrote
a beautiful article on how to groom the dear animals so
that they don't bite you. You had subscribed to Wordtracker,
this is great, because it allows you to find key words for
your particular industry (in your case poodles!).
However, if you subscribed
a few weeks back and you thought you would just run in,
grab they key phrases and get out, you now will realise
that having just written a fabulous article on poodle grooming
you may not have those grooming phrases. You will have to
resubscribe at this stage to get the terms you wish to use.
There are two things about
this. One is that it is irritating to have to keep subscribing
and two, it is more expensive to keep subscribing in short
bursts.
Short subscriptions damage
creativity...
One of the beauties of reading the information on who searches
for what, is that you can let your mind wander through related
phrases that might bring in visitors. If you are a Poodle
breeder (I know, this analogy is wearing thin now) then
you might also start writing articles on Great Danes, because
someone looking for Poodles might also be trawling for other
types of dogs and be undecided. A long subscription allows
you to have these thoughts when you have them, rather than
having to rush through your use of the site. This allows
you marvellous freedom in finding new avenues for your creativity
in getting visitors to your site.
Long subscriptions improve clarity of thought Not many days of the year go by without me dipping in
to see some new phrase idea. So, one last point. I
used to collect too many phrases at once. In exactly
the way I describe to you above, I used to buy a subscription
for a particular client and try to cram in all of my phrases
into a small time scale. The result, apart from my points
above, was that I ended up with a great long list of phrases.
Sounds good? Well, it isn't, it is disheartening. You have
a lot of enthusiasm, you have found hundreds of great phrases
and now you have to do something with them. Not only that,
but you need to split them down into meaningful topics.
This also enables your mind to wander and find other related
topics and niche areas.
It is far better to take a topic and find a specific
area and in that way you get clearly defined, manageable
sets of key words which actually inspire you to produce
pages for them. You can order them in importance and work
through them at your leisure.
Wordtracker, how does it work?
The principal of the Wordtracker product is simple.
Records of millions of real searches on a particular meta
search engine are taken over a 60 day period and these are
then available for you to check how many times your search
word or words have been searched for over the last 60 days.
This information is analysed and the likely number of times
a given search word or phrase has been searched for is listed
per search engine.
Come on, what are you waiting for?
Ask yourself this question: "Which search words am
I optimising my site for?"
Answer: Easy you may say. I want to optimise my site
for 'widgets' for the word 'widgets'
Wrong! Well partially anyway. You need to look at
niches whilst you are trying to attain that top phrase. For
example, people might misspell 'widgets' as 'widgits'. Whilst
their may be a lot less misspellings, this will almost certainly
not have a vast number of sites vying for the word and so
you will stand a better chance at attaining that top position.
More... people seldom type one word searches on the Internet.
OK, this is not strictly true. Inexperienced Internet users
will do this but they soon find that one word searches do
not find the things they want. People quickly learn that two
or more words are needed to be specific enough for the answers
they want. Don't believe me? Try Google ads and see how long
they allow your one word search term before turning it off
due to lack of click throughs. It should take a matter of
hours. Nobody really takes any notice.
So using this program you can find the phrases they really
use. Type widgits in (and your newly found widgets!) and you
will get all the variations asked for in the last 60 days
- all the multi word phrases that include widgets or widgets.
This will include obvious ones like 'widgets in London' but
will come across nice little niches with few competitors,
such as 'consumer reports on widgets' which may get you tens
or hundreds of hits a day.
NOT only that you will be told how many competitor sites
there are and how many searches were made for each engine
using this phrase. Amazing isn't it.
We would say that you are fumbling around in the dark
with your search engine optimisation if you don't use this
program.
If you are going to optimise your site this is an absolute
must to guide you on the way. Without this tracker you will
almost certainly miss those niches that would get you visitors
and get the business.
Come on, what are you waiting for? It's free to try!
You need the numbers. You need visitors to make your
site work. In my experience, at least 100 a day before you
start to get a decent return. You will do it with some sensible
optimisation based around the right key words and some other
basic techniques.
This powerful service tells you how many web sites per engine
compete for your search word or phrase. Word tracker also
lists the approximate number of times your listing will appear
in front of someone if they search for a phrase or word on
an engine and you have top ten placement.
Added to features such as misspelling finders and a rating
for how hard to gain a particular placement per engine will
be and you have a very powerful tool to aid your search engine
promotion campaign.
There is a free trial of the product available immediately
(please read current terms on their site).
Once you try this, you wont want to be without it if you are
serious about wanting visitors to your site.
